Alongside practical sustainability strategies, regular reflective practice needs to take place within the business organisation, if we are to move toward a true sustainability. Sustainability begins with the self - the inner mindset, purpose, values and intentions of each individual.
Our inner world translates into our outer world.
Reflection is about synthesising, abstracting, and articulating the key lessons taught by our experiences. Reflection gives the brain a chance to break amidst the chaos of our daily lives, allowing us to untangle and arrange various observations and experiences, and contemplate possible interpretations, and create meaning from these. This meaning becomes learning, which can then inspire future behaviours and attitudes.
“Without reflection, we go blindly on our way, creating more unintended consequences, and failing to achieve anything useful.” - Margaret J. Wheatley
